Sustainable Rural Development
Cognegica Networks work diligently on sustainable rural development with the focus to get the farmers back on their feet by helping them achieve financial stability with the help of modern technology and solutions. We are also trying to create a significant impact to make healthcare access easy and affordable.
What do we mean by Sustainable Rural Development? What is our mission?
Food is one of the primary necessities of humans. The agricultural sector is a pivotal pillar of the country’s economy. The farmers are thus nothing short of demigods. A self-reliant nation is the one where the farming sector thrives, ensuring food security for all.
But what happens when the farmers face contempt or their welfare is poorly treated? The impact can be quite grim – suicides among farmers has become a ‘been there, seen that’ story! We have become habituated to such news.
On the other hand, other issues plague the rural landscape, like poor health infrastructure and the lack of education and access to modern technology. We all are well aware that quality healthcare and technology make our life healthier and comfortable.
At Cognegica Networks, we work diligently to get the farmers back on their feet by helping them achieve financial stability by using modern technology and solutions. We are also trying to create a significant impact to make healthcare access easy and affordable. Cognegica Networks is working with the local Panchayat Raj in the villages to enable digital transformation in their workings.
The three pillars of our mission
We are committed and focusing on these three crucial areas for our Sustainable Rural Development products:
- Financial Stability for Farmers
- E-Governance
- Easy Community Healthcare Access
Financial Stability for Farmers
Cognegica Networks provides financial stability to farmers using a variety of approaches.
How much to invest?
Investment is the primary factor or, let’s say, the first stage in farming. The money has to take care of all the farming expenses at every step. We call this investment the Cost of Crop Cultivation.
Our SaaS application considers many factors to determine the cost of crop production; also predict the profit or loss that the farmer may encounter. The selected variant of the crop(s) determines this estimate.
What kind of crop to cultivate?
Many rural farmers are unaware of the changing climatic conditions or the leaps taken in the agriculture and technology domain. They still rely on traditional methods for crop selection and cultivation. Their sources of information are invariably fellow farmers. Hence, the level of success estimated is also uncertain.
Here, Cognegica Networks saw an opportunity to develop an application that will connect the farmers to SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in agriculture. The SMEs shall do all the homework regarding crop selection, climatic conditions, soil quality, crop yield, and the kind of revenue that the farmer can expect to earn. They can also help the farmers solve issues relating to crop diseases, fertilizers to be used, among other things.
At what price to sell the produce?
The major flaw in the system gets highlighted at this stage of the process. The farmer may have a good yield but still denied his rightful revenue. The kind of prices at which farmers get coaxed to sell their produce to middle-men, mediators, brokers at the Agricultural Produce Markets (APMs) is appalling. Farmers invest not just their money but their life’s savings, energy, time practically, everything to earn a good yield to sustain themself and their family. In return, they face miserable abuse.
For example, a farmer may be selling tomatoes at the rate of Rs. 2/kg to a middleman. The middleman might end up selling it to small vegetable vendors at Rs. 20/kg. The vegetable vendor may end up selling these same tomatoes that had a very humble start at Rs. 2/kg at Rs. 40/kg to the end consumer.
Our two SaaS applications are a step towards eliminating this horrible inequality of prices and the abuse of the hard work put in by our nation’s farmers.
Application 1:
Cognegica Network’s first application is a platform for farmers to sell their produce directly to the consumers. Following are the stages in the process:
- The farmer makes a bid of the price at which he/she wishes to sell in the app. He/she will be able to decide the bid price with the app as it suggests the market price to the farmer.
- Next, the consumers place a bid at a feasible rate to buy the same product in the app.
- A well-monitored sale occurs that will ensure both farmer and the consumer is happy; both are in a beneficial situation.
Application 2:
Our second application enables a subscription-based model in Agriculture Produce Marketing. Steps are as follows:
- The consumer will subscribe to the products of their choice for a week.
- Selected farmers will deliver the requisite items.
- Farmers get a steady income source through their direct selling to consumers; consumers are happy to get fresh farm produce.
E-Governance
The Govt. of India is undertaking many steps towards digitization in their processes and modus operandi, in general. The intention is to change the system even at the grassroots level. The digital boom can and must get implemented starting from the lowest step in the ladder of our democracy – the Gram Panchayats and the Panchayat Raj offices in villages.
E-governance or Electronic Governance is the usage of the phenomenal IT world in delivering Government services to citizens (G2C), to its employees (G2E), to deal with businesses (G2B), and to deal with other Governments (G2G). It also includes back-office processes, exchange of vital information, and internal interactions.
Through e-governance portals, citizens can actively take part in a democratic process. Citizens can raise any complaints, suggestions, and disputes in their areas and bring issues to cognizance. The concerned authorities are, thus, compelled to take strict action and necessary steps.
We believe that educating the poor and empowering them is a sure-shot way to boost a nation’s growth and contribute to a developed world. Cognegica Networks has built SaaS applications for the Panchayat Raj offices for effective e-governance, thereby realizing this commitment.
Easy Community Healthcare Access
Good quality and affordable healthcare is hands down a fundamental human right. One cannot downplay its importance during an emergency or even otherwise.
At the rural level, community healthcare is as precious as gold. The mortality rates are high due to inadequate care and timely medical intervention. Small community health care centers and camps in villages help the rural populace, but they are still devoid of critical care and advanced patient support infrastructure. Government hospitals are the only safe bet, but they happen to be farther away in big villages or at the town or district level.
To bridge this gap between rural patients and Govt. healthcare officials, Cognegica Network developed a rural community healthcare application. It connects the deprived patients to qualified and experienced healthcare personnel at big Govt. hospitals, thus saving critical time and increasing affordability of quality healthcare for the poor.
Our products in the Sustainable Rural Development space are still in stealth mode as we await Government approvals. We should be able to share more details with you soon.
